Like safari Muhammad Ellies the two playful pugilist pachyderms began fighting after their herds refreshed themselves at a waterhole. The jumbo encounter between the larger male with wide tusks and his smaller adversary was watched at some moments by an older female acting almost like a referee. After a few rounds the larger bull backed down and ran back to the group when the smaller opponent landed some blows with his tusks on the mouth and head. You could say he won by tusk-nical knock out. British amateur wildlife photographer Paul Meek took these ringside snaps at the at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. Yorkshireman Paul, 47, who works in financial technology in London, said the battle began after two herds of elephants met at a waterhole and the youngsters excitedly greeted one another. He said: “After quenching their thirst, the matriarch’s led each herd off. However, two of the younger bulls seemed excitable, a sparring session was agreed between them with the raising of trunks and battle commenced. “‘Wide boy’ as I nicknamed him because of his very wide tusks, confronted the smaller bull ‘Pretty boy’ and started pushing him around. “The younger bull was forced backwards at some pace as the older, bigger and more dominant bull pushed him towards our vehicle, at which point we needed to get out of their way. “The sparring session continued, and one of the sisters appeared to keep an eye on things. “Slowly the bulls repositioned themselves so that they were facing e
