A women farmer arranges trays of sliced tobacco leaves in Sumedang, Indonesia. According to local tobacco farmers, in early October 2024 the price of tobacco in Sumedang Regency decreased by around 20 percent to IDR 100,000 ($6.46) per kilogram compared to the previous month which reached IDR 120,000 ($7.75) per kilogram, due to the large stock of tobacco after the harvest. Currently, the number of active smokers in Indonesia reaches 70 million people, mostly young people according to the Indonesian Health Survey.
