A pair of lion cubs look like they’re dancing as they play fight in the morning sunlight. The youngsters were spotted playing around in Dinaka, Botswana. Photographer Lukas Walter said, “They were play fighting and it only occurred to me when I saw the pictures that they look like they’re dancing. In real time it happened so quick.” “I love their expressions and the beautiful back light of the early morning. November 2023 at Dinaka, Central Kalahari, Botswana Can you describe what you saw? The whole lion pride which was 3 adult females, 9 cubs and the two dominant males were present around a waterhole. The cubs were drinking there and playing around. Were you waiting for a while and did they mind your presence? We left them at the same spot the night before and hoped they still be there the next morning. The definitely noticed our presence, the cubs came from some close looks to check us out. The adults were not interested at all. Would you agree that it looks like they are dancing together? Did you think that at the time? What are they really doing? These two were play fighting and it only occurred to me as it looks like they are dancing when I saw the pictures. In real time it happened so quick. What is your favourite thing about the shots?
