The Bat Rehabilitation Center in Kharkiv is the only one in Ukraine that rescues bats in the cities of Ukraine. During the war, when many Kharkiv residents left the city and abandoned their apartments, and when the windows of the houses were often broken due to the constant shelling of the city by the Russians, the problem became much worse. Bats fly into apartments through broken windows and, unable to get out, find themselves trapped. Hundreds of them die in empty apartments.
Young biologists of Kharkiv have created an organization and go out almost every day at the invitation of caring people. They usually find hundreds of animals in abandoned apartments. They are collected, examined, ringed, fed and released again at night in the center of Kharkiv. The Center accounts for about ten thousand rescued Red Book animals every year.
