An Essex man with an obsession for collecting historic milk bottles has fulfilled his lifelong ambition by becoming a Milkman. Paul Luke today (2nd Sep 24) launched his own milk round covering parts of Essex including Basildon and Stanford le Hope. To keep with the historic theme he is using an original electric milk float built in 1959. Paul 46 from Corringham was once the editor of Milk Bottle news a magazine for fellow milk bottle collectors and has his own museum containing 20,000 bottles each painstakingly filled with tiny polystyrene balls to give the illusion they are still filled with milk. Paul's previous plans for his own milk round were scuppered by the Covid Pandemic but he is now proud to launch Ecofresh Dairy to bring fresh milk to customers doorsteps.
Paul said. The idea will be to keep things very simple, with Just two rounds a week to start with with no expensive computer system, manual rounds books like the old days but a website to order and pay up front for customers who prefer that approach. Using traditional glass recyclable bottles will hopefully go a small way to reduce the amount of plastic milk bottles in use.
