Pansy with her mum, Pauline. UK YOU'RE AN animal expert if you can guess what this golden-coated critter is? Snapped at Hamerton Zoo Park, Cambridgeshire Pansy, this fur-covered cutie is, in fact, a nine-month-old Tasmanian golden possum who loves piggybacking on her mum, Pauline. Other pictures also show Pansy’s dad, Tau, eating a rose. The Tasmanian golden possum is the same species as the Common brushtail possum, but it has a genetic mutation that makes its fur this gorgeous golden colour. Their colour makes them conspicuous to predators, so they are rare and found primarily in Tasmania. In Tasmania, there are fewer predators, hence they are able to survive there longer. Possums are omnivorous species, and they predominantly eat flowers, buds and fruit. These cute pictures were captured by Helen Black, a British nature photographer from Peterborough. “These golden possums are such unusual animals, and their colour is spectacular, as they are not often out, it is always a big thrill to see them,” she told mediadrumworld.com “I was given special access to their enclosure, and I brought some roses from my garden, which we can see Tau munching on. “I loved capturing the strong bond between Pauline and Pansy. Pansy would rarely leave her mother’s side, and Pauline was more than happy to carry her around and take care of her at all times.”
