Bell Rock Lighthouse, Scotland, Britain - 19 Jan 2011
Bell Rock Lighthouse Twelve miles off the Coast of Arbroath in Scotland. The lighthouse celebrated its 200th anniversary on the 1st of February 2011 making it the oldest sea-washed rock lighthouse still in continuous use in the world. Owned and operated by the Northern Lighthouse Board the Bell Rock lighthouse lies around 12 miles off Arbroath on the east coast of Scotland. Listed as a Building of Special Architectural or Historic Interest in 1998 it stands testament to the great Engineers of the time. The Bell Rock lighthouse marks the treacherous Inchcape Rock, which is a reef 600m long, directly in the route for vessels entering the Firths of both Forth and Tay. The Bell Rock was designed and built by John Rennie and Robert Stevenson, but is probably most notably regarded as Robert Stevensons greatest engineering achievement.
